Individual Counseling

The counseling process begins with an intake session lasting approximately 50 minutes.  This session allows the client and the therapist to get to know one another and make sure it is a good therapeutic fit.  After the intake session, follow up appointments ranging between 45-60 minutes will be scheduled.  For individuals, the rate for counseling is $120/session.

Relationship Counseling

Relationship counseling is geared towards improving the quality of the romantic relationship.  All partners must be present for the intake session and follow up sessions, with the exception of individual break out sessions.  These break out sessions allow the therapist to get to know each individual in the relationship, and are not used as a time to bash the other partner(s).  Sessions range between 45-60 minutes.  For relationship sessions, the rate for counseling is $160/session.

Solidarity Scale

We additionally will attempt to work on a “Solidarity Scale” ($70-$100) based on expressed need for anyone who identifies with one of these experiences:

  • Trans, Non-binary, and Gender Expansive people

  • Black and Indigenous people

  • Migrants, and/or 1st and 2nd Gen

  • Sex workers

  • Artist-Activists

  • Mental health workers in community settings

  • Persons living with multiple disabilities, or persons with already high medical costs due to chronic illness

Fee-For-Service and What That Means for Clients

Aperture Counseling LLC has chosen to not accept insurance for treatment.  This decision was made to protect clients' confidentiality to the fullest extent possible.  Insurance requires medical necessity and a mental health diagnosis regardless of the client's reason for attending therapy.  This diagnosis will stay on your record as a pre-existing condition and could impact future career opportunities as well as health coverage.  Additionally, insurance plans with high deductibles require that clients meet their deductible before they will begin any coverage.  By having a flat rate for services, clients know exactly what the cost of treatment will be without surprises later on.  Finally, by opting out of insurance, the counselor may use their professional judgment in determining how long a client may benefit from therapy, rather than having the insurance company dictate length of treatment based on what they are willing to cover.

There are no guarantees that insurance will accept out-of-network coverage.  For those who wish to pursue out-of-network coverage, you will be responsible for contacting your insurance company directly.  Your counselor will be happy to provide a receipt of services for your convenience.
